Yaskawa (VIPA)

Connect Yaskawa and VIPA controllers to the ENLYZE Platform.

VIPA was founded in Germany in 1985 and acquired by Yaskawa in 2012 (fully integrated into YASKAWA Europe GmbH in 2019). The controllers are sold under the Yaskawa brand today but are still widely known as VIPA.

What makes them special: Yaskawa's (VIPA's) SPEED7 controllers are largely compatible with the Siemens S7-300. They use the same S7-300 instruction set, can be programmed with Siemens STEP 7 or TIA Portal (as well as SPEED7 Studio), and speak the S7 Communication protocol (S7comm over RFC1006, default port 102).

For ENLYZE this means: Yaskawa (VIPA) controllers with an Ethernet interface are connected exactly like a Siemens S7-300, through the S7 Classic (RFC1006) connector. The connection mechanics are identical to the Siemens S7-300.

Because the SPEED7 controllers are addressed like a Siemens S7-300, the same prerequisites apply. You can find a detailed description of the S7 Classic connector on the Siemens page.

Device overview

The following table gives an overview of the Yaskawa (VIPA) families and typical devices. The Compatible with column maps each family to the corresponding Siemens generation. The Status column indicates whether we have already connected the family in the field.
