# Yaskawa (VIPA)

VIPA was founded in Germany in 1985 and acquired by Yaskawa in 2012 (fully integrated into YASKAWA Europe GmbH in 2019). The controllers are sold under the **Yaskawa** brand today but are still widely known as **VIPA**.

What makes them special: Yaskawa's (VIPA's) SPEED7 controllers are largely **compatible with the Siemens S7-300**. They use the same S7-300 instruction set, can be programmed with Siemens STEP 7 or TIA Portal (as well as SPEED7 Studio), and speak the **S7 Communication protocol** (S7comm over RFC1006, default port `102`).

For ENLYZE this means: Yaskawa (VIPA) controllers with an Ethernet interface are connected exactly like a Siemens S7-300, through the **S7 Classic** ([RFC1006](/en/connect/ot-connectivity/supported-industrial-protocols.md)) connector. The connection mechanics are identical to the [Siemens S7-300](/en/connect/ot-connectivity/supported-controller-brands/siemens.md).

## Device overview

The following table gives an overview of the Yaskawa (VIPA) families and typical devices. The **Compatible with** column maps each family to the corresponding Siemens generation. The **Status** column indicates whether we have already connected the family in the field.

**Rule of thumb:** the SPEED7 families (System 300S/300S+, SLIO, MICRO) use the Siemens S7-300 instruction set and the S7 Communication protocol. They are therefore connected like a Siemens S7-300 through the **S7 Classic** connector.

The families **System SLIO**, **System MICRO**, and **System 100V/200V** are technically connectable but have in some cases not yet been connected by us in the field. Older CPUs of the 100V/200V lines also do not always have an integrated Ethernet interface.
