# Variable groups

Save variables you use often as a group and load them elsewhere in one click.

If you tick the same five variables every time you start an analysis, save them once as a group. In [Production run analysis](/en/production-optimization/analysis/production-run-analysis.md) and [Product analysis](/en/production-optimization/analysis/product-analysis.md) you then load them from a dropdown.

## Prerequisites

A machine with active variables.

## Creating a group

## Select the machine

Under **Select variables**, pick the **Machine**. A group always belongs to exactly one machine.

## Tick the variables

The table shows **Name**, **Unit** and **Type**. The filter fields under the column headers help in long lists. The **Selected** counter at the top right shows how many variables are currently marked.

## Name it and save

Enter a name under **Save selection** and select **Save**. Pick a name that describes the intent, "Extruder temperatures" rather than "Test 2".

## Managing groups

The **Saved groups** table lists your groups with **Name**, the **Machine** they belong to, and how many **Variables** they contain. The pencil button edits a group, the bin icon deletes it.

## Using groups

In [Production run analysis](/en/production-optimization/analysis/production-run-analysis.md) and [Product analysis](/en/production-optimization/analysis/product-analysis.md), the **Load group** dropdown sits above the variable table. Loading a group replaces the current selection. You can then tick further variables or remove individual ones without changing the saved group.

The **Manage** link next to the dropdown brings you back to this page.

## Groups are personal

Variable groups belong to your user account. Other members of your organisation cannot see them and you cannot share them. If a team needs the same selection, each person has to create the group themselves.

Because a group is tied to a machine, it only appears in the dropdown when that machine is selected. For the same variable selection on a second machine, create a second group.

## Common questions

Check the selected machine. Groups are machine-bound and only appear for the machine you saved them for.

<summary>What happens if a variable is deactivated?</summary>

It can no longer be loaded. The group survives but returns fewer variables than when you saved it. Edit the group to clean it up.
