# Production hierarchy

To bring your production into the digital world, you model it in ENLYZE as a hierarchical structure of sites and machines:

* [**Sites**](/en/resources/production-hierarchy/sites.md): the top-level grouping of your production environment by physical location.
* [**Machines**](/en/resources/production-hierarchy/machines.md): the assets on which you manufacture your products and for which KPIs like OEE are calculated later.

The production hierarchy is the foundation: all other resources build on it or are linked to these elements. You can adjust the structure at any time by renaming, deleting, or moving resources in the hierarchy.

How to scope your machines well (a line as a single machine or split into several) is explained in the [Modeling your production](/en/resources/production-hierarchy/machines.md#modeling-your-production) section on the Machines page.
